GO MaD, THE Music and Dance Competition, Rules

Rules covering both the Music and Dance categories of the competition:

  1. To enter your act must register online on our "Enter Competition" page.
  2. Entries will only be accepted with signed copies of the "GO MaD, THE Music and Dance Competition, Application and Parental Agreement" which must be provided for each member of your act.
  3. Entrants must be students attending one of the participating schools and will be in year 8, 9 or 10 during the next Autumn term (in years 7, 8 and 9 at time of registration).
  4. You can enter either or both categories.
  5. The prize for the winners of both the Music or Dance categories of the competition is £250 for each winning act (a maximum of one winning act per category of the competition) and is to be spent to help enhance their acts.
    1. The purchase of the equipment etc. for the winning acts will be approved by Futuresys Ltd.
    2. No money will be given directly to the members of the winning acts.
    3. The prize can be given in vouchers for music stores etc.
  6. After the auditions the acts going forward to the heats will be decided by the panel of judges for the competition.
  7. There will be no more than 20 acts in total put forward to the heats after the auditions. These will be split across both the music and dance categories.
  8. If a member of an act has an illness that stops them from performing in the heats, semi-finals or final the judges will decide if the act is to take part in the rest of the competition.
  9. After each heat a number of acts, decided by the judges, will be knocked out of the competition leaving the remaining acts to go on to the next heat, semi-final or final.
  10. The decision of the judges is final.
  11. Bad language on stage is not permitted. Inappropriate behaviour will result in exclusion from the competition.

Specific Rules for Music Acts

  1. Entrants to the Music category of the competition can be soloist, duets, groups, bands etc.
  2. You may perform any song/music you like throughout the competition, though we encourage you to try and write your own material.
  3. If you write and perform your own material, the videos of these performances taken during the competition will be promoted on this GO MaD website and any other websites decided by Futuresys Ltd, for example the GO MaD pages on Facebook. This will give your act great publicity.
  4. Performing a cover of copyrighted music is permitted but as mentioned above, your performance will not be promoted online.
  5. Musical acts may perform in, but not limited to, any of the following genres:
    1. Alternative
    2. Blues
    3. Classical
    4. Country
    5. Dance
    6. Electronic
    7. Folk
    8. Hip-Hop/Rap
    9. Jazz
    10. Latin
    11. New Age
    12. Pop
    13. R&B/Soul
    14. Reggae
    15. Rock
    16. Vocal
  6. The music acts that make it through to the heats, semi-final and final will need to be able to perform at least two pieces.

Specific Rules for Dance Acts

  1. Entrants to the Dance category of the competition can be soloist, duets or groups.
  2. You may perform to any song/music you like throughout the competition, though we encourage you to try and write your own material.
  3. If you perform to your own material, the videos of these performances taken during the competition will be promoted on this GO MaD website and any other websites decided by Futuresys Ltd, for example the GO MaD pages on Facebook. This will give your act great publicity.
